Parking at a Cars and Coffee Meet: What We Learned

Cars and coffee meets are one of our favorite mornings and one of the few events where the crowd shows up earlier than the vendors. A few things we have learned parking at them.

The lot fills before sunrise

Whatever time the meet says it starts, the good spots are taken an hour before. If you are organizing, put the truck in position before the first car rolls in — once the lot is arranged, nothing large is moving through it. We plan our arrival around that, not around the published start time.

Where the truck should sit

Not in the middle of the display. The truck works best at the entrance or along the edge, where people walk in and walk out. Nobody wants a van blocking the sight line down a row of cars, and we do not want to be the reason someone cannot photograph theirs.

It is a coffee crowd, genuinely

Unlike most outdoor events, this one orders espresso and means it. Americanos and lattes lead, ristrettos actually sell, and the cold side stays quiet until the sun is properly up. It is one of the few bookings where the coffee menu carries the whole morning.

It ends fast

Meets do not taper. Around ten or eleven the lot empties in about fifteen minutes. There is no long tail, so a service window that runs past noon is wasted — book the early hours instead and put the money there.

The truck is part of the display

People photograph it. Navy blue, awning out, at the end of a row of cars in morning light — we end up in more feeds from these mornings than from any other event we do. There are a few shots in the gallery.
